The Credit for Prior Learning Portfolio CPL Process

  1. Upon matriculation to UT Tyler, the student begins the Credit for Prior Learning process by speaking with their academic advisor. The student should have any credits by examination available for review.
  2. Based on knowledge and skills reported, the advisor will assist in selecting courses on the student's degree plan that are most closely aligned with the experience.
  3. Use the most recent syllabus posted on the UT Tyler website to obtain the course student learning outcomes. The learning outcomes will determine the documentation required to demonstrate content mastery of the course student learning outcomes.
  4. Upon completion of the template, the portfolio is sent to the academic advisor.
  5. The academic advisor submits the portfolio to the qualified faculty for review. This step is repeated for all courses where credit is requested.
  6. Upon receipt of the evaluation the advisor will send the faculty review and the portfolio to the registrar for processing any credit awarded by the faculty. A copy is sent to the student.
  7. The University Registrar will add the portfolio to the student’s academic record and transcribe the UT Tyler earned credit (CR) on the student’s transcript.
