Office of International Programs

The Office of International Programs (OIP) facilitates transformative international experiences through student mobility programs, global academic partnerships, and support for the enrollment, success, and retention of international students. OIP advances the university’s global engagement by overseeing Study Abroad, International Student Services, Exchange Visitor Services, the Intensive English Language Institute, and U.S. Passport Services.

Study Abroad and Faculty-Led Programs


The Office of International Programs assists UT Tyler students and faculty in pursuing international experiences through the following opportunities:

  • Short-Term Faculty-Led Programs – Immersive international learning experiences coordinated by OIP in collaboration with UT Tyler faculty. These programs typically range from one to eight weeks and are offered during Winter Break, Spring Break, and the summer terms.
  • Exchange Programs – Opportunities to study abroad for a semester or full academic year at a partner university while paying UT Tyler tuition and fees.
  • Affiliate Programs – Opportunities to study abroad at international universities through affiliate providers during the winter term, summer, a semester, or an academic year.

International Student Services (ISS)

International Student Services (ISS) provides comprehensive support for F-1 and J-1 international students and scholars pursuing academic studies at UT Tyler. OIP assists students and scholars in maintaining compliance with U.S. immigration regulations, including requirements related to enrollment, employment, travel, status changes, and re-entry into the United States.

Exchange Visitor Services


OIP welcomes international exchange students, scholars, and faculty to UT Tyler. Exchange visitors promote international education by sharing expertise and supporting collaborative teaching, research, and academic engagement. Through the exchange of ideas and knowledge, visiting scholars contribute to research and academic activities across a variety of disciplines.

Intensive English Language Institute (IELI)

The Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) prepares non-native English speakers to improve their English language proficiency and academic skills, meet university English proficiency requirements, and successfully transition into degree programs at UT Tyler.

English Proficiency Waiver for Undergraduate and Graduate Students: English proficiency requirements are waived for students who complete Level 6 of UT Tyler's IELI program with no grade lower than an A, or Level 7 with no grade lower than a B.

Please note that individual graduate programs may have higher English proficiency standards. Applicants should consult their academic program for specific admission requirements.

Passport Acceptance Facility


The Office of International Programs serves as a Passport Acceptance Facility for the UT Tyler community and the public. Authorized by the U.S. Department of State, OIP accepts passport applications, executes required documentation, and provides guidance regarding passport application requirements. Passport-style photos are available for an additional fee, providing convenient one-stop service for passport applicants.
