CRIJ 5345 Courtroom Testimony
This graduate-level course provides an advanced examination of the presentation and admissibility of scientific and expert evidence within the criminal court system. Emphasis is placed on the historical development of evidentiary standards, evolving interpretations of admissibility in light of landmark cases, and the intersection of forensic science, law, and ethics. Students will critically evaluate courtroom strategies, expert witness performance, and the influence of scientific testimony on juror perception. Through case analyses, peer critiques, and a capstone mock testimony exercise, students will integrate theoretical, legal, and ethical considerations to demonstrate professional competency in presenting and defending expert testimony in criminal and civil proceedings.
