COMD 3350 Language and the Brain

This course covers the fundamentals of human brain structure and function, primarily related to speech/language processing. It provides: an in-depth review of neuroanatomy/neurophysiology; familiarity with current methods used to probe the neural bases of speech and language function; and historical perspective on how current theoretical views and methodological tools developed. Understanding how the brain processes and represents motor, sensory, and linguistic information will provide valuable insights into higher cognitive functions, as well as an understanding of neurological disorders, such as the aphasias, and the processing specializations of the left and right hemispheres of the brain.
